What Is Special About Airtel 5G?
Kampala ET asked the Airtel Managing director, Mr. Manoj Muralia bout what Airtel Uganda 5G internet would bring to the table. He said, “5G is the 5th generation mobile network that enables a new kind of network. This technology will connect virtually everyone and everything together including machines, objects, and devices at very high speeds. It delivers higher multi-Gbps peak data speeds, more reliability, and massive network capacity. It also guarantees increased availability, and a more uniform user experience to more users.”
Can Airtel Uganda 5G Perform Well In Remote Areas?
According to Airtel Uganda, 5G can support a significant higher number of devices per square kilometre. This is clearly incomparable to the existing limited capacity 4G technologies. This means that 5G is the suitable network over which remote teams can collaborate. The network is reliable for vital tasks like surgery, shared online school classes, engineering tasks and stream gaming. It is noteworthy that the 5G technology was arrived globally on most phones in 2019 to make the internet integrated in normal life. This was later followed by the launch of 3D gaming and sophisticated technology including Mark Zuckerberg’s Metaverse.
Where Can I Find Airtel Uganda 5G Network?
There are 11 towers that have successfully tested the 5G technology in Uganda. 5G is already accessible around Industrial area, Garden City Area, Upper Kololo, Clement Hill, Hannington Road, Lower airstrip Kololo and Wampewo Avenue. It should be noted however that only customers with 5G compatible devices can enjoy the 5G experience. There is no need to reregister your line as you can access the network using your existing 4G SIM Card. All other Airtel sites across the country have configurations and are ready for deployment once the spectrum is granted. This means that 5G network will be available all around Uganda very soon in 2023.
Manoj Murali Honored To Announce This Achievement
Mr. Manoj said, “I am happy to announce yet another Airtel first milestone in Uganda’s digital transformation journey. Airtel Uganda is now 5G ready. Since 2018, Ugandans have known us for a 4G network that covers this beautiful country border to border. Over this network, Airtel Uganda has delivered world class affordable voice, data, and financial services. We are glad to start yet another journey with you on 5G”
The managing director also said that Airtel Uganda has already applied for the required spectrum from the sector regulator, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). Spectrum is a finite resource for the country and its use is under regulation by the regulator.
“According to the National Development Plan III, use of ICT infrastructure is a key objective. An agile Smartphone network like Airtel Uganda’s is pivotal in the journey of Uganda’s Economic growth through digital and financial inclusion of every person. We align to the Uganda’s broadband Strategy and accordingly ready to launch 5G technology”
