How Big Brother Naija Started
Formerly known as Big Brother Nigeria, BBNaija is a reality competition television series. It first aired from 5 March to 4 June 2006. Contestants live in an isolated house and compete for a large cash prize and other material prizes at the end of the show.
However, contestants have to avoid eviction if they are to make it to the end of the show. The eviction is done by viewers who vote for their favorite house mates to remain in the show.
The show seems to have derived inspiration from Big Brother Africa, another popular reality tv series that began in 2003 hosted by South Africa.
Big Brother Africa had contestants from different countries across Africa. Unfortunately, the show was Tanzania’s Idris Sultan emerged the winner of the US $300,000 ( Ugx 1,062,470,081 ).
It is from this that BBNaija came up with their own version. Currently only Nigerian citizens and Nigerians in the diaspora take part in the competition.
The show resumed for the second season in 2017 after 11 years.
What Will Be The Prizes?
The Winner of BBNaija 7 will take home 100 million naira worth of prizes. This will include 50 million naira cash prize ( Ugx 429,020,696 ) and material prizes worth 50 million naira.
