Many fans reacted differently on popular sports news channel ESPN FC after their YouTube channel posted a photo showing Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer (5 ft 7 inches) standing on a stool for his post-match interview with teammate Harry Souttar (6 ft 7 inches). This was after Sunday’s Championship game between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, which ended 1-0 in favor of Sheffield United. They are now sitting 2nd in the Championship table, level on points with leaders Sunderland, whose goal difference of 14 to Sheffield United’s 12 is what separates the two teams.
However, on a day when the news could have focused on Sheffield United’s winning streak and resilience, ESPN FC instead highlighted 27-year-old Brazilian defender Gustavo Hamer’s height difference with his teammate Harry Souttar, a 26-year-old defender on loan from Premier League club Leicester City, as the main story.
Here’s how fans reacted to Gustavo Hamer’s Height
One fan commented: “Why didn’t the tall dude sit on a chair instead?”
Another added: “No need to be proud or ashamed of things we can’t change or are out of our control like height, appearance, or things earned by birth.”
Another said: “He may be small, but his heart is BIG.”
As if that wasn’t enough, another remarked, “Messi is 5’7 – who cares about his height? It doesn’t matter. This is not basketball.”
One more fan commented: “This is more like humiliation – after all, David did kill Goliath.”
Lastly, another member stated: “Why laugh? Where’s the fun in that? I’m sure each one of us has some faults or imperfections because none of us is perfect.”
