How did Martha Ahumuza Murari die?
A night out at a popular Kampala nightclub, Mezo Noir, took a tragic turn after a 23-year-old woman, Martha Ahumuza Murari, collapsed and later died in what authorities suspect to be a poisoning case.
Detectives at Kira Road Police Station have launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred in the early hours of March 21, 2025. Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, confirmed that two men, identified as Edward Mugabo and his brother Joseph Kalenzi, have been detained to assist with the probe.

What exactly caused the death of Martha Ahumuza Murari?
According to Onyango, Ahumuza met her friend, Mugabo, a cashier at the nightclub, at around 2 a.m. The two reportedly drank together until 3:30 a.m. before moving to the manager’s office, an area without CCTV surveillance. It was in this office that Ahumuza allegedly collapsed.
Mugabo then contacted his brother, Kalenzi, and together they rushed Martha Ahumuza Murari to Kampala Hospital, where she was placed on life support. However, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.


Why did Mezo Noir Night club Close?
Hours after the incident, Mezo Noir’s management announced a temporary closure, citing “unforeseen circumstances.” The statement, issued on Friday morning, apologized for any inconvenience and assured patrons that a reopening date would be communicated soon.
When is the burial of Martha Ahumuza Murari?
The family of Martha Ahumuza Murari has organized a vigil this evening. Her body will be taken to All Saints Church Kampala tomorrow before being transported to Nyarubanga, Mbarara, where she will be laid to rest on March 23.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death, with authorities urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
