The community of Kalaki District is in shock following the tragic death of Dr. Wilfred Olila, a lecturer at Soroti University and a renowned Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist. His lifeless body was discovered in Otuboi Town Council on the morning of January 18, 2025, under suspicious circumstances.
Dr. Olila’s hands were reportedly tied with a rope, fueling speculation of foul play. At the time of discovery, he was dressed in a T-shirt bearing the logo of the Uganda Medical Association, further confirming his identity.

What happened before the news circulated ‘Dr Olila found dead’?
Isaac Olila, the deceased’s son, disclosed that the family became concerned when Dr. Olila did not return home by his usual time of 7:00 p.m. on January 17. Hours later, reports surfaced of an unidentified body found in Otuboi.
The family’s clan leader, Awitong Alunga Shaban, was dispatched to the scene and confirmed their worst fears – the body was that of Dr. Olila.
A Life of Service and Dedication
Dr. Olila, who graduated from Makerere University in 1984, was not only a distinguished medical practitioner but also an academic mentor to many. As an ENT specialist, he operated a successful clinic in Lira, where he provided essential healthcare services to the community.
His dual role as a healthcare provider and an educator at Soroti University made him a revered figure in the Lango sub-region. His death has sent ripples of grief across the medical and academic fraternities in Uganda.
