The 2022 FIFA World Cup has officially begun with the opening ceremony at Al Bayt Stadium. The Sunday 20th 2022 show was headlined by Jung Kook of K-Pop super group BTS in front of 60,000 fans. However, one of the non-musical performers was 85-year-old American actor, Morgan Freeman. While officiating the games, Morgan delivered a speech about the “emotions that connect us all now”.

The opening ceremony came underway 90 minutes earlier than the first game – Qatar and Ecuador. Now, this is the part you know how people from Qatar are called because most of the fans in attendance were Qatari locals. However, one corner of the stadium was filled by a noisy group of Ecuador supporters.

Another popular figure was former England captain David Beckham, who has been an ambassador for Qatar 2022. Oh again; the ceremony was not style, fashion, celebrity and glamor as we received a reading from the Quran. One of the most colorful elements of the show was an appearance by all former World Cup mascots, including South Africa’s Zakumi and Footix from France 1998.

Social Media Reaction To Morgan Freeman At FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar

Things aren’t as beautiful as intended however on the internet for the Morgan Freeman. The 85 year old actor has been labelled a ‘sellout’ with ‘blood on his hands’. This is apparently because he accepted Qatari cash to front the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup. The surprise appearance in Doha has happened exactly 12 years after he messed up whilst bidding for USA to host the FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, social media, fans called him a ‘Qatari sleeper agent’, referring to his infamous speech in 2010. Morgan blandered back then by just saying, ‘I’m sorry, I missed a page’. This caused huge embarrassment for the USA’s bid team such that they missed the hosting opportunity. Freeman narrated the opening segment of the FIFA World Cup 2022 opening ceremony. It was titled ‘The Calling’, telling viewers: ‘We all gather here in one big tribe’. That’s the match that set social media ablaze with the reaction less than favorable for the Oscar-winning actor. Consequently, his appearance has been as a ‘slap in the face’ to see the American in the stadium.
