Many candidates have been shortlisted as census enumerators and supervisors (shortlisted on April 2nd, 2024) and are curious about their pay for the ten-day census period (May 9th to May 19th, 2024). Many questions have been asked and answers are as scarce as one can imagine.
In the absence of official information, some people are looking to the 2014 census for clues. Back then, enumerators reportedly earned:
Daily wage: Ugx 20,000 (Total: Ugx 200,000 for 10 days)
Transport allowance: Ugx 10,000 (Total: Ugx 100,000)
Meals allowance: Ugx 3,000 (Total: Ugx 30,000)
Total earnings: Ugx 330,0007
It’s unclear whether the pay will remain the same, increase, or decrease. Official communication hasn’t addressed this yet, but hopefully there will be clarification soon.
When are the Census Enumerators and Supervisors Interviews?
While pay is a concern, shortlisted candidates must first pass interviews to be confirmed as enumerators or supervisors. These interviews will be held at local government headquarters (sub-counties or parishes) across various districts.
For instance, a document signed by Tororo District’s Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Atama Gabriel Richard, states that Tororo’s interviews will occur from April 8th to 13th, 2024. Following successful interviews, supervisors will undergo training from April 17th to 25th, and enumerators from April 29th to May 7th.
Finally, on May 7th, appointment letters will be issued to successful candidates who will then lead the country’s 11th National Population and Housing Census.
