When did Huawei Uganda donate computers to Kakebe?

During the Kakebe Tech Camp 2025 held from January 6th, 2025, Huawei Uganda donated up to 23 computers to the organizers. This marked a step further in terms of supporting young people.

In a rapidly evolving world, digital literacy has become a cornerstone of personal and economic growth. Recognizing this, the Kakebe Tech Camp is making strides in empowering Uganda’s youth by bridging the digital divide and fostering technological innovation. Through this initiative, young minds are being equipped with the tools and knowledge to navigate the digital landscape and create sustainable solutions for their communities.

One of the most significant milestones for the camp came when Huawei Uganda Technologies, a global leader in information and communications technology, demonstrated its commitment to fostering education and innovation. Huawei generously donated 23 laptops to the program, an act of support that serves as a gateway to a brighter future for participants. This transformative contribution has enabled hundreds of youth to gain hands-on experience, turning aspirations into actionable skills.

Equally pivotal has been the role of NITA Uganda (National Information Technology Authority-Uganda), whose unwavering support has elevated the camp’s vision. Under the stewardship of its Executive Director, NITA Uganda has provided invaluable assistance, including technical guidance and in-kind contributions. This partnership underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between government agencies and private entities in driving meaningful change in Uganda’s education sector.

What happened before Huawei Uganda donated to Kakebe?

However, the journey of the Kakebe Tech Camp has not been without challenges. In a heart-wrenching reflection on the obstacles faced, the program’s coordinators revealed that they reached out to over 350 potential sponsors and partners through emails and letters. Of these efforts, only a mere 2% responded positively. This stark statistic highlights the uphill battle of securing resources for transformative initiatives and amplifies the gratitude for those who stepped forward to support the cause.

Who else donated apart from Huawei Uganda?

The Tech Camp is more than just an educational program—it is a beacon of hope for Uganda’s youth. It provides participants with opportunities to learn coding, digital marketing, graphic design, and other critical tech skills, unlocking their potential to contribute meaningfully to the global economy. Huawei’s donation of laptops and NITA Uganda’s strategic involvement have been instrumental in creating an environment where young talents can flourish.

Despite the challenges, the resilience of the Kakebe Tech Camp team and the enthusiasm of its participants remain unshaken. Their story is a testament to the power of persistence and the transformative impact of collective support. With continued partnerships and community backing, the camp aspires to nurture a generation of tech-savvy innovators who will drive Uganda into a prosperous digital future.

For Huawei, NITA Uganda, and all who have supported the camp, the impact goes beyond the numbers. Their contributions have ignited dreams, fostered skills, and empowered a new wave of changemakers. It’s not just about technology; it’s about creating opportunities, one laptop and one lesson at a time.
