What is the Kabaka Birthday Run 2025?
Buganda Kingdom has officially announced the routes for the much-anticipated 2025 Kabaka Birthday Run, scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 6, 2025. This year’s edition holds special significance as it commemorates Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 70th birthday.

Route Unveiling and Race Categories
The official unveiling of the race routes took place on 1st April 2025 at Bulange Mengo, presided over by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga. The run will feature three race categories: 21 kilometres, 10 kilometres, and 5 kilometres, ensuring participation from both professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts. However, routes currently under maintenance will be excluded from this year’s event, as confirmed by Hajj Twaha Kawaase, the chairman of the committee overseeing the Kabaka Birthday celebrations.

The annual event is expected to attract thousands of participants and aims to promote health and wellness while also raising awareness about HIV/AIDS. The Kabaka Birthday Run has consistently served as a platform for advocating for social causes, and the 2025 edition is no exception.

This year’s run has garnered significant support from various institutions. The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has contributed Shs 5 million to support the event. KCCA Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki commended the Buganda Kingdom for its efforts in promoting health awareness and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to drive social and economic development in Kampala.
Expressing his gratitude for KCCA’s support, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga encouraged residents of Kampala to actively participate in the event. He also reaffirmed Buganda Kingdom’s commitment to working closely with KCCA to ensure the smooth administration of the city.
Sponsorships and Partnerships
Additionally, the National Drug Authority (NDA) has partnered with the Buganda Kingdom to sponsor the event. According to NDA official Fred Kabuye, this collaboration is part of a memorandum of understanding aimed at furthering health initiatives within the kingdom.
Educational institutions have also pledged their support, with Janan Schools donating Shs 10 million towards the event. The school’s proprietor, Mike Kironde, urged more schools to participate in the run and purchase jerseys as a show of solidarity for the cause.
