It’s not everyday that we see people as brave as Kakwenza Rukirabashaija. One of the currently most prominent Ugandans for writing a politically oriented novel. However, he got into serious repercussions and is currently based in Europe.

Who Is Kakwenza Rukirabashaija?

If you are living under a rock, Kakwenza is an award-winning Ugandan Novelist. He is also a lawyer and Scholar of PEN-Zentrum Deutschland.

Why Did He Choose To Be A Writer?

According to the height-gifted novelist, the first responsibility of any writer is to shine a beam of light into “dark hellholes of impunity”.

“So as a writer,” says Rukirabashaija, “I saw the numerous injustices and impunity my country is encapsulated in and I wrote about it.” He says he did this to inform those who are not aware or those who fear to speak out. He apparently wrote some of his books for people he says owe their successes to following the current regime. While we believe following the government is not a bad thing, Kakwenza says some do it at the expense of the future of his country.

Who Is Your Life Coach?

“I look up to Chinua Achebe, Barack Obama, Kizza Besigye, Ngugi Wa Thiong’o and several other distinguished human beings.” He also looks up to people like Eron Kiiza and Nicholas Opiyo.

What Music Does Kakwenza Listen To ?

He listens to Kadongo Kamu, Country Music–these are always crafted with indescribable poetic creativity.

Should Girls Have Cinderella Syndrome (Receiving Mentality)?

“This world is highly evolving and we are all equal. No one should really fold his or her hands to be on the receiving end because of his gender description.” he continues saying, “The real person is that who is not subservient to inherited dogma. A real person is an iconoclast. A real person is a human being who values Ubuntu African philosophy.”

Which Are The Best Books Kakwenza Has Written?

The writer has written four books; Greedy Barbarian, Banana Republic, In the thick of things. He has also published his LLB Thesis, Critical Analysis of the independence of the judiciary.

Which Are Your Favorite Books?

“My favourite Books are; Things Fall Apart, No longer at Ease, Lord of the flies, From Third to First world by Prof. Lee Kuan Yew, Confessions of an Economic Hitman, and thousands of others I have collected in my home library.”, he told Edge Times magazine. Kakwenza says he has a bigger library than some schools.

Which Are Your Favorite Movies?

The novelist loves British movies because of the Victorian English and the great accent. To be specific, he is fascinated by The Crown, Bridgeton, Sleepy Hollow, Pirates of the Caribbean and many others.

Advice To Young People In Uganda And The Rest Of The World

“My advice to young people: Please read books! At least everyday, find two hours away from your computer and phone and noise and spend it learning and reading.” he concluded.
