When will A-level schools start selecting S5 learners?
On February 20 and 21, 2025, A-level schools across Uganda will begin selecting their learners for Senior Five, following the release of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) 2024 results. A total of 359,417 candidates sat for the exams, and an impressive 98 per cent, or 350,146 students, passed. The newly implemented lower Secondary Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) introduced a fresh approach to assessing students’ achievements, now grading their level of proficiency in each subject with grades ranging from A to E.
How will A-Level Schools choose their students from 2024 UCE results?
In a statement by the Ministry of Education, it was revealed that schools would follow these grading criteria when selecting students for the Advanced Level (UACE) in Senior Five. According to Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) Executive Director Daniel Odong, the placement process will largely reflect the grading system in place. “We carry out selection using those grades. So the template, with some modifications, that we’ve used for placement for UACE will remain the same,” he confirmed.
