Dangerous Liaisons is a movie that talks about how fame and social media negatively affect people. The cast is led by Celene ( Paola Locatelli, known by the pseudonym Paola Lct, born on March 2, 2004. She is a French influencer, model, actress and entrepreneur.

The dramatic and romantic movie was released Jul 8, 2022 (France).It is purely in French though the subtitles and soundtrack in English enable English language people grasp it all.

The Plot of Dangerous Liaisons

The movie begins with Tristan ( Simon Rerolle ) who speaks solemnly about how fame is power in the modern age. It is a kind of foreshadowing what to expect as the movie slowly unwind.

The scene moves to our lead actress Celene who has just landed in Biarritz, a south-of-France paradise of sun, beaches and lovely architecture. She speaks with her fiance on a video – call before turning to her father and continuing with the journey they are on.

Fast forward, Celene wakes up in the morning, only to find her dog missing. New in this part of the country, she fears for her dog’s safety. Fortunately, the dog is saved by Tristan when it’s almost knocked by a reckless driving teen who is on phone.

At this point the stage is set, Celene and Tristan talk. The former deeply appreciative. The conversation is interrupted by two females who want to record an Instagram story with Tristan. Its then that Celene realises that Tristan is the popular surfing Champion.

The two latter get along well. But as is norm, evil is always in fight against good. At a party organised by Tristan, a bet is made between him and his “girlfriend”  Vanessa (Ella Pellegrini) is the pampered star of the Little Sophie movies. Vanessa dares Tristan to date, f*ck and dump Celene who seems to be a pure girl. Its not the first bet of this kind the two have had.

In the beginning Celene tries to fight off Tristan’s advances. She even quarrels bitterly with him when he kisses her. Reminding him that she is already someone’s fiancé. Her argument is right but with time the circumstances make her give in.Tristan is such a hunk of a guy that the poor innocent Celene stutters in her belief. It finally happens.

During a School theatre act the two are on, Vanessa forces Tristan to publicly announce the end of his relationship with Celene. He obeys for because Vanessa says she has some information about Celene. However, Vanessa goes against her word and posts a video of Tristan and Celene “doing it “to over her 6 million followers on Instagram.

In retaliation, Tristan too posts a video where Vanessa is caught saying she doesn’t give a f*ck about her followers .She even equates them to a bunch of fools who have nothing to do but follow her on social media.

Celene overwhelmed by the emotions runs towards the shores and jumps in the lake. Her fiance saves her and they talk about not really loving each other but fulfilling family obligations. At that point Tristan posts to his about 4 million followers in Instagram a video telling of how he is truly in love with Celene. The two later come together and its a happy ending but not for Vanessa.

Lessons Learnt From Dangerous Liaisons

Fame is power : Tristan and Vanessa together they share 10 million followers, who like and heart and emoji their sham BF/GF relationship. But the two misuse this power to the extent that they decide to make bets to toy with other people’s feelings. Celene is the unfortunate victim here.

Trust few friends: In an attempt to woo Celene, Tristan and Vanessa have Celine’s  DJ/drug-dealer pal Tao (Jin Xuan Mao) install a spy software in her phone. One may argue that Tao is blackmailed into doing that but excuses can’t be taken.

There is time for everything : Celine’s cousin Charlotte (Heloise Janjaud) narrates how she spent her whole life without having a boyfriend but now at High school she has options and is even confused which one to take. Similarly, Celene questions why people have to post on social media every aspect of their life but later also joins the trend.
