A number of movies have been released this February and guess what, the Kings of Horror and Thriller: Shudder Original just released a heart gripping thriller called “ They Live in the Grey.” It does not matter whether you believe in ghosts or not, this movie will surely leave you in shudders.
Released Thursday 17th February 2022, the 2 hours 4 minutes movie starts out with a failed suicide attempt by Social worker Claire (Michelle Krusiec). Krusiec played the 18-year-old Molly O’Brien in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode and leads the cast in “ They Live in Grey.)
This opening obviously leaves viewers wondering what may have caused Claire to attempt Suicide. However, as the movie progresses it is revealed that she lost her son. Grief and guilt are pulling her down as she tries to cope with the loss of her son and only child.
To make matters worse, it is not only grief and loss that have taken their toll on Claire. She occasionally sees ghosts. These leave her in utter restlessness to the extent that she even runs away from her own bedroom in order to sleep in a closet.
As a social worker, Claire is given a case with challenging conditions. Sophie (Madelyn Grace) says her scrapes and bruises are from reckless skateboarding, corroborating travel agent mother Audrey’s (Ellen Wroe) testimonials. The story is not taken by Claire.
It is interesting how Claire puts her own grief and sadness aside in order to help the young Sophie by pushing further to know exactly what situation the young girl is going through. Claire thinks at first that it’s child abuse or Corporal Punishment but later senses the presence of a ghost in the house.
The malevolent spirit causes unrest in the house. She has to do her best to make things right in this house.
Leslie Felperin from The Guardian summarizes the movie as being “ properly scary and thoughtfully constructed .”
