Nigerian Singer Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, has canceled her show that was scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. The show was part of the Born in the Wild Tour, an ongoing debut concert tour in support of her debut studio album, Born in the Wild (2024).
Why Was Tems’ Rwanda Show Canceled?
Tems shared the reason for canceling her show with her fans via X:
“I recently promoted my show in Rwanda without realizing that there is an ongoing conflict between Rwanda and Congo. I never intend to be insensitive to real-world issues, and I sincerely apologize if this came across that way. I simply had no idea this was going on. My heart goes out to those affected. Conflict is no joke, and I truly hope and pray for peace during this time”
How Fans Reacted to Tems’ Show Being Canceled
One fan commented:
”Similar to businesses conducting market research before expansion, artists must stay informed about global affairs. Music possesses immense power, but so does awareness. A performance is not merely entertainment; it serves as a form of messaging. Staying updated on current events is not solely about political considerations; it is about demonstrating respect, responsibility, and a connection to the world.”
Another fan said:
”Take the time to educate yourself about what’s happening on our African continent! The internet is right at your fingertips!”
Another added:
”I’ll place the blame on your management because proper research could have been conducted to avoid this. It’s important for artists to stay informed about political developments, as politics affects everyone.”
