In a recent development, Kenyan Veteran politician Raila Odinga has conceded defeat in the race for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position. The election saw Djibouti’s Foreign Minister, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, emerge victorious.
Raila Odinga on Strengthening Democracy in Africa
Speaking to the media in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Mr. Odinga graciously accepted the outcome, stating, “As it stands, we did not win; therefore, I concede defeat. I wish my competitor all the best.” He emphasized the importance of using this experience to strengthen democracy across the African continent.
Mr. Raila Odinga, a former Prime Minister of Kenya, expressed gratitude to his supporters and acknowledged those who voted differently, highlighting the exercise of democratic rights by all involved. He also indicated plans to return home and focus on domestic matters, noting, “I will go back home; there are many things waiting for me back there.”
