Fresh from winning two trophies just last week, Rubongi Army SS ( RASS) today added two Bukedi Regional Competitions trophies to their trophy cabinet. These were in the Netball and Girls Rugby 7s discipline. The feat summed up one of the most successful campaigns for the school in terms of games and sports. Four trophies in six days for Rubongi Army SS.The first trophy was the District Netball trophy won on Thursday June 20 2024. The second came on Saturday 22 June 2024 – the District Rugby 7s Girls trophy. The the other two regional trophies of Netball and Rugby were won on Tuesday 25 June 2024.
On the other hand, Great Aubrey Memorial College also came out on top with a trophy for Boys Rugby 7s. They managed to win the trophy without playing a single match. This was as a result of the fact that no other team showed up for the competitions. This definitely set them as the Champions.
How RASS Won Two Bukedi Regional Trophies
Having emerged as Tororo District Netball Champions, RASS came into the tournament with high spirits. As ar result, they found little difficult overcoming River Side and Buhobe to qualify for quarter finals against Alliance. A game they won by a great margin.
As if not enough, RASS had to face Busia SS,one of the strongest teams at Semi Finals. The other Semi Final game was between Rock High School and Great Aubrey Memorial College. RASS and Rock High School both had wins that managed to set up a tense final game in which RASS came out on top.
On the other side, the Girls Rubgy trophy was won by RASS without even shading any sweat. No team tuned up for the competitions. This automatically had RASS declared as the Champions.
What the Captain and Coaches Said
The Netball team Captain Namuli Budesta who is currently in Senior Four expressed her joy and happiness after winning the trophy. She revealed her team came into the competition with hopes of winning the trophy. She thanked the Head Teacher, Maj Zaina K Nalukenge for her support and above all the coaches and games teacher for their tireless efforts.
The Coaches Mutebi Shafik and Owino Andrew AKA Triple O of East FM, a leading Radio Station in Tororo district were all smiles on such a historic feat. Triple O attributed the massive win for the fact that the Head Teacher Maj Zaina K Nalukenge managed to support the team right from the beginning. He added that the selfless character of the players also contributed to the win as one of the star players has to play with an injury to help the team win.
Coach Shafik on the other shed some light on the fact that the girls had to play five games in one day to conclude the competitions. He said it’s not something new as games always depend on the number of teams available. He concluded by promising that RASS team will remain intact and come back stronger next year after concluding their next tournament at Nationals in Soroti at Teso College Aloet from 9th July 2024.
