If you walked into Uganda, you’d surely receive the warmest welcome with the best foods and courtesy at its peak. That’s how hospitable the country is such that you would “feel at home” and have a piece of mind. However, corporal punishment is still a great menace.

However, this is the reverse when you get enrolled in a Ugandan school; you are promised a certain magnitude of suffering if you don’t “focus”. A child goes to a classroom with the attitude of hitting the teacher/parent’s expectation rather than the original intention of learning and acquiring skills.
How The Bible Is Used To Support Corporal Punishment
During my childhood, violence from parents and teachers was considered a form of teaching, and a child was supposed to endure it until they learned how to do whatever was expected of them. The problem with this is that you would grow up to become a less confident person, but instead a bully with very barbaric manners. Some kids would brag about having experienced violent situations in their homes and those that didn’t get beaten were considered weaklings who are probably suffering from some serious complications. Technically, we even have a belief that is derived from the Bible, “Spare the rod, spoil the child” (Proverbs 13:24).
However, as I grew up, I discovered that everything simply happens just because someone chose it and that’s when I realized that adults too are wrong. I asked myself, “Why is sexual violence against the girl child so emphasized?” Before coming to know what sexual violence means, I felt like the law was broken however I eventually noticed that the government is only concerned with the increasing number of school dropouts instead of the environment children experience in schools. Logically, nobody wants to learn in a terrific environment, let alone one with a certain standard of success.
Throughout school, I was sponsored by Compassion International whose goal is to instill Christ-like characteristics in individuals experiencing any form of poverty or health issues. In this environment, I grew up with a different perspective from the other kids at school about discipline. I learned to be friendly to adults, unlike my mates who shunned them because of the frustration that comes with getting spanked in front of a classroom. But I was too young to change a thing in an average African adult’s mind thanks to how the reputation of children being beaten reduces them to the standard of pets.
I have been building my career since 2018 when I joined a Diploma journalism class with my passfor changingange people’s lives using my writings and articles. For this reason, I started my very own blog, Kampala Edge Times where I always wrote articles that inspired other people with positivity such that they can stop all the bitterness towards inferior and disadvantaged people including young children.

Fast forward to 20 and 22, and here I am still doing the same by writing and publishing content hoping it will reach a random person out there so they can change how they treat minors and other inferior people because I believe people’s attitude entirely depends on their perception.
In 2018 I was so lucky to discover the US Alliance to end corporal punishment and I hope it will help my work cross to all the overseas countries such that people can spread a little more love toward those who actually can’t harm them. Recently, I was able to afford a website kampalaedgetimes.com which I intend to use to spread very inspiring articles to the whole world; my goal is to build some equal to The NewYork Times which I believe spreads amazing information about the USA so the citizens can be proud and grateful for their country.
How to end Corporal Punishment
With the right efforts, we can end all sorts of negative energy especially violence and corporal punishment from the world. In my case, the only thing limiting me is funds, but I believe that when I meet the right people at the right time, there will be a breakthrough and the world will have no option but to accept the message of love and harmony. Children themselves have a lot of potential, they shouldn’t be underestimated! In 2021, I won 1,400 dollars because my kid brothers contributed to the making of my video as well as voting.
For this reason, I tell everyone I meet my goal to spread positivity with my magazine and tell them to care for kids instead of scaring them to death. If handled carefully, little children can unleash the potential of a fully grown human being, so do not beat them up in the name of making them grow. Let them grow naturally and they will later share with you their secrets and we might build an empire someday. Thank you for reading about my efforts to end corporal punishment! It’s our responsibility to end corporal punishment against children, what have you done about it?
