What is Sakye Becca Couture and what do they deal in?
Sakye Becca Couture is a fashion house specializing in custom-made designs. “We do national costumes, creative wear, traditional attire, evening gowns, and prom dresses,” says founder Rebecca Mirembe. Established on May 1, 2023, Sakye Becca Couture operates from its workshop in Kireka, along Kamuli Road, opposite Mogas Uganda. Check their Instagram here.
How did Rebecca Mirembe start this fashion store?
The idea for Sakye Becca Couture had been in Rebecca’s heart for a long time, but the official journey started on her own on 1st May 2023. Thankfully, she was blessed with the help of her team later in February 2024. “I have an operations manager, my big sister Tendo Maria, who helps me organize clients and schedules,” she explains. Rebecca’s grandmother, Nalule Miriam, also plays a vital role, in sourcing materials like banana fibre and leaves from the garden. “She ensures we have all the materials ready for our clients.” Her younger sister, Birunji Leila Tasha, also acts as her assistant, reminding her of tasks and managing daily operations.
Who else works at Sakye Becca Couture?
The team also includes students and trainees who come to the workshop to learn and assist with projects. “For example, Prossy and Mirembe Saida are students who help out while learning. Our manager in this department is Tendo Maria, while I, Rebecca Mirembe Kisakye am the team lead. We also train them in weaving and crafting designs,” Rebecca shares.
What have they achieved so far?
The work of Sakye Becca Couture has gained recognition for its remarkable pieces. “One of our most notable designs was for Little Miss Global, awarded Best National Costume in Malaysia. Another was for Miss Eco Queen Uganda’s second runner-up in 2024, which won Best Creative Wear,” Rebecca recalls. Her designs have also been featured in Dubai competitions and local events like Little Miss Heritage Uganda.
