Queen of Afrobeats, Tiwa Savage, has extended a special invitation to Ugandan internet sensation Tenge Tenge to attend her son’s birthday celebration in London. This invitation came just a few hours after Tiwa followed the young star on Instagram, revealing that her son is a huge fan of Tenge Tenge’s hilarious content.
Who is Rango Tenge Tenge?
Rango Tinge Tenge, an 11-year-old boy from Uganda, has captivated millions worldwide with his unique blend of comedic charm, expressive dance moves, and catchy tunes. He first burst onto the scene in late 2023, armed with nothing more than a smartphone and a knack for creating viral content. His TikTok videos quickly became a sensation, with one particular piece amassing an astounding 124.6 million views, cementing his status as a global phenomenon. Since June 2024, Ugandan fashion model, Doreen Kabareebe has been promoting the young boy on Twitter.
Who is Tiwa Savage?
Tiwa Savage, currently one of Africa’s biggest female artists, known for performing in front of royalty and massive audiences, follows only 1,686 people on Instagram. Tenge Tenge is now among this select group, a testament to his growing influence and appeal.
The young Ugandan’s meteoric rise to fame is built on his signature comedic style, which incorporates elements of traditional Ugandan sayings. His catchphrase, derived from a common phrase used to encourage toddlers to walk, has resonated with audiences far and wide. With over 2.4 million followers on TikTok, Tenge Tenge’s delightful mix of dance, lip-syncing, and comedy continues to attract a global fan base eagerly awaiting his next video. His expressive eyes and charming Ugandan accent have become trademarks, making him instantly recognizable.
What challenges has he faced?
Despite his popularity, the youngster has faced criticism, particularly for his unconventional humor. In February, Ugandan musician A Pass came to his defense after comedians at Comedy Store made insensitive jokes about him. A Pass passionately addressed the issue, urging the comedy community to show more sensitivity and respect.
“Do you think people wanted to have autistic children? Do you think people want to have children with heart defects? Do you think people want to have children with tumors? I come to your comedy shows to sing, but I am tired. One comes with their parent and you spend the whole time making insensitive jokes. My message to Alex Muhangi (proprietor of Comedy Store) is to rethink the business and regulate your guys,” A Pass stated.
As Tenge Tenge prepares for his trip to London, his story continues to inspire and entertain millions. His journey from a small town in Uganda to the global stage is a testament to the power of social media and the universal appeal of genuine talent and humor. With the support of fans and celebrities like Tiwa Savage, the sky is the limit for this young star.
What will he do with his wealth?
“I will first construct a borehole in my home village that will cost 5M and I have cleared the balance. Then I will go on and build my parents a house – Content creator Tenge Tenge on the money he got in Dubai.” said the autistic boy.
