Government Okays Nyege Nyege Festival

Don Wanyama, government social media in charge has confirmed that Nyege Nyege will indeed go on. Wanyama made the announcement through a tweet where he said that the event can procede. He however added that there will be maximum security.

This comes just 24 hours after government had banned the event from happening.

What is Nyege Nyege festival?

This is a gathering that always happens in the Ugandan capital Kampala every year, This festival always happens every year and its purpose mostly is to promote external music from other countries like Kenya, Tanzania and all willing countries around the globe. Nyege Nyege is a word in Luganda that may mean “Much zill to party or dance”.

What happens at Nyege Nyege festival?

There is always lots of uncontrollable fun that includes :-Dancing, Eating, Performances from various Sections, promotion of different talents inclusive and many others. At the festival also people do some other activities like marketing, and also exhibitions which fetches persons from different parts of the country and other countries around.

What has happened to this year’s Nyege Nyege festival?

The Government of Uganda through the Parliament has cancelled the festival because of the observations and experiences got from the past festivals. It is believed that it carries lots of different kinds things, like immorality among people present, misconducts ,non educative etc.

The debate was carried out on Tuesday 6th September 2022 about whether this year’s Festival to be carried out or no and about it’s impact to the country and the area of host but it was concluded that it’s negativities overwhelm positivities and hence cancelled.

This years Nyege Nyege Festival was scheduled to take place in Jinja City. It was arranged to be a 4 days party from 15th-18th of September but the government is against it.

The majority enjoy the fun, entertainment, associations, interactions they normally get. Whenever they turn up for the festival, it doesn’t only carry Ugandans but people from all over the globe. The business people in the hosting area were going to miss out a lot. This is because they usually make more sales during the Festival thanks to the huge numbers. The exchange of culture would also be missed because all kinds of people try to showcase their culture, let alone fashion and design! These are always the top key factors in this Nyege Nyege Festival.
