Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has set a whole new record on Box Office even after struggling to shoot without Chadwick Boseman who was the main character in Black Panther. Chadwick Boseman dealt with a brave battle against colon cancer before passed away in 2020.
The Marvel movie premiered at an estimated $180 million in North America, according to the film’s studio, Disney.
This singular peak crowns Wakanda Forever as the highest-grossing debut ever for the month of November. Previously, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” held this record with $158 million in November 2013.
As we write this, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has made $330 million globally so far.
Why Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Succeeded
The movie stars Letitia Wright and Angela Bassett as the princess and queen of the African country of Wakanda. It is produced by Marvel Studios which is considered the most lucrative brand in all of Hollywood. and Being a sequel to one of the most popular films of all time, the success was eminent. Don’t believe me? Cool! In 2018, Black Panther hit theaters in February 2018 at a stellar $202 million weekend and eventually $1.3 billion worldwide. The flick garnered multiple Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and is considered to be one of the best from the comic book genre. Additionally, Black Panther is one of the best movies generally from Marvel.
Another possible reason for the “Wakanda Forever” success is audiences wanting to see how the film and director Ryan Coogler would handle the passing of Boseman. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige in September said, “It just felt like it was much too soon” to recast the late actor. Boseman died at age 43 from colon cancer.”
“Wakanda Forever” got 84% on Rotten Tomatoes during its premiere and more Audiences gave the film an “A” on CinemaScore.
The Movie’s Christmas Timing
This success has come toward the Christmas holiday when most people are visiting theatres and watching Disney. Theaters needed a blockbuster to help boost numbers as there was hardly a new notable blockbuster. Disney on the other hand has been facing losses of upto $1.4 billion, so a viral movie saved the day. However, this won’t change much since investors want the efforts performed by Disney themselves. Talking about Disney’s efforts, we expect”Avatar: The Way of Water” this December 2022.
