The Yeri Women’s Day Tournament held its fourth edition on March 8, 2025 International Women’s Day. Hosted at King George Stadium in Tororo, the tournament primarily focuses on netball and football, providing a platform for women and girls to showcase their talents while celebrating their achievements. The event also aims to raise awareness of important issues affecting their lives.
The tournament is sponsored by Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Yeri Apollo Ofwono. This year’s edition featured participants from primary and secondary schools, as well as market women, each competing in their respective categories. Due to the large number of matches, the preliminary games were played on March 2, 2025, allowing only the semi-finals and finals to be played on Women’s Day.

How the Yeri Women’s Day Tournament Unfolded
Girls’ Football – Secondary Schools
The four teams that qualified for the semi-finals were:
Tororo Progressive Academy (TOPA)
Rock High School
Tororo Girls’ School (TGS) A
Tororo Girls’ School (TGS) B
In the first semi-final, TOPA faced Rock High School in a match that ended 0-0, forcing a penalty shootout, which TOPA won 4-3.
In the second semi-final, TGS A played against TGS B, with TGS A securing a narrow 1-0 victory.
The final match saw TGS A retain their title by defeating TOPA in the final, successfully defending the trophy they won in 2024.

Girls’ Football – Primary Schools
The primary school teams proceeded directly to the final match. Prime View School, which had participated in the National Girls’ Football Competition last year, dominated Rock View School, winning 3-0. Prime View controlled most of the possession, keeping their opponents pinned in their own half.

Girls’ Netball – Secondary Schools
The four semi-finalists were:
Rubongi Army Secondary School (RASS)
Manjasi High School
Global High School
Rock High School
In the semi-finals:
RASS defeated Manjasi High School 14-7. 24. Rock High School secured a commanding 22-8 victory over Global High School.
The final was a rematch of last year’s championship, as RASS and Rock High School faced off once again. RASS emerged victorious with a 21-14 win, retaining their title from 2024.

Girls’ Netball – Primary Schools
Like the primary football matches, the netball finalwas played directly, featuring Amagoro Primary School vs. Rock View School. Amagoro triumphed with a 15-7 victory.
Market Women’s Matches
The Market Women’s Football match featured two teams, Team A and Team B. Team A won 1-0, in a match that kept the crowd entertained as they watched the market women passionately chase victory for their teams. 30. The Market Women’s Netball match also had two teams, with Team A defeating Team B 9-7.
The 2025 Yeri Women’s Day Tournament once again proved to be a memorable celebration of women’s sports, highlighting the growth and talent of girls and women across Tororo District.
