It’s that time of the year when the AFRIMMA (Africa Muzik and Magazine Awards) nominees are revealed to the public. The list of nominees was released on Thursday, August 17th, 2023, via the official AFRIMMA website.
The 10th edition of these prestigious awards features several Ugandan entertainers nominated in five different categories. This means Uganda has a chance to win in any, if not all, of these categories.
Ugandans nominated for AFRIMMA
Starting off, we have the one and only Eddy Kenzo, nominated in the category of Best Male Artist East Africa. It’s worth remembering that Eddy Kenzo was the first Ugandan to be nominated for a Grammy Award, alongside Matt B for the song “Gimme Love.” The Big Talent Boss faces competition from seven more artists across East Africa, including Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz and Rwanda’s music sensation, Meddy.
In the category of Best Female Artist East Africa, Uganda is represented by Swangz Avenue Songstress Azawi. She is joined by the singer of “Siri Regular,” Spice Diana. This gives Uganda two nominations. The two face competition from seven other artists, notably Zuchu and Nandy, both hailing from Tanzania.
Youngsters Nominated for AFRIMMA
And that’s not all – Uganda boasts two more nominees in the AFRIMMA category of Best African Dancer. Representing Uganda are the famous young dancers: Masaka Dance Kids and Ghetto Kids.6. The only Ugandan to make it to the nomination list in the category of Best Music Producer of the Year is Producer 207.
The last category where Uganda is represented is Radio/TV Presenter of the Year. James Onen is representing Uganda but faces stiff competition from the famous Ebuka of Nigeria, known for hosting Big Brother Naija, and seven more individuals.
