The 6th edition of the Inter Conservation Area Games (#InterCAGames2024) has kicked off with excitement and enthusiasm. The event is currently underway at the Queen Elizabeth Conservation Area’s Nyamugasani range ground in Uganda. The games promise an exciting display of talent, competition, and teamwork among Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) conservation areas.
The Acting Executive Director of UWA, Masaba Stephen, officially opened the games in a unique fashion. He took a penalty kick against Pontius Ezuma, the Chief Warden of the host, Queen Elizabeth Conservation Area. This symbolic gesture set the tone for a spirited competition ahead.
Conservation Area Games: Netball and Football Matches Set the Pace
The netball and football matches have already sparked intense competition. In the first netball match, Lake Mburo Conservation Area secured a win against Kampala Headquarters with a score of 18-13. The victory was a strong start for Lake Mburo, setting them up as a formidable contender in the tournament.
Kidepo Valley Conservation Area’s ‘Parakeets’ girls also had a great start. They outshined Kibale Conservation Area’s ‘Chimpanzee’ girls, securing a 21-12 victory in their netball match. The momentum carried into the men’s football match, where Kidepo Valley again triumphed over Kibale, winning 2-0 in a thrilling display of skill and teamwork.
Range Shooting Exercise to Sharpen Skills
Before the games began, participants took part in a crucial range shooting exercise. This exercise was essential for fine-tuning their shooting skills, ensuring precise aim and accuracy. The competition is set to include shooting contests on September 11th, 2024. The exercise included a “falling plates” shooting event, which added to the excitement. UWA PR & Communications Manager, Bashir Hangi, and Kibale’s Chief Warden, Tibesigwa John Justice, opened the shooting range. They also welcomed participants and wished them the best of luck in the games.
Queen Elizabeth Conservation Area is the proud host of the 6th edition of the Inter Conservation Area Games. The games will run until Saturday, 14th September 2024. The event will bring together various conservation areas under UWA, showcasing not only sports talent but also the spirit of conservation and teamwork.
