Rwenzori House emerged victorious in the Rubongi Army Secondary School Inter House Competitions 2023, as announced on Wednesday, 22 November 2023. This marked the culmination of an exhilarating period filled with diverse activities conducted by numerous clubs participating in the competitions.
Rwenzori House, considered the underdogs, defied expectations and clinched the overall title, wresting power and bragging rights from the favored Serengeti House and Kabalega House.
How the Inter House Competitions Began
The Inter House Competitions featured four main houses at Rubongi Army Secondary School: Tsavo House (Yellow Colour T-Shirts), Rwenzori House (Red Colour T-Shirts), Kabalega House (Blue Colour T-Shirts), and Serengeti House (Green Colour T-Shirts).
The competitions officially commenced on Monday, 24 September 2023, inaugurated by Mr. Opolot John, the acting Deputy Headteacher in Charge of Careers and Guidance. The houses engaged in various activities, including Debate and Quiz, Zaina Cup Inter House Football Competition, Projects, Dance Sport (Lingala and Break Dance), and Songs (original compositions about the school).
Serengeti’s Preceding Reputation
Despite the school’s population of approximately 3000, evenly distributed among the four houses, with an average of around 750 learners per house, there was a prevailing belief that Serengeti House harbored the most talented learners. This notion stemmed from the presence of school team footballers and national debaters predominantly in Serengeti.
However, appearances can be deceiving, and Rwenzori House, dubbed the underdogs, not only surprised their opponents but also astonished themselves. The moment was described by one of the house masters as akin to the Biblical story of Joseph, where his big brothers knelt before him.
Winners of the Different Items in the Inter House Competitions
Contrary to expectations, Rwenzori House outwitted the National Debaters from Serengeti in the Debate, proving that talent can emerge unexpectedly. Additionally, Rwenzori triumphed in the Quiz competitions, with Otagar Raymond from S.5 Arts competing fiercely against Tsavo’s Negesa Avia from S.5 Arts.
The Zaina Cup Inter House Football Competition witnessed Kabalega’s victory over Serengeti, settled two weeks ago through penalties. Despite the pressure, Kabalega emerged as champions when a Serengeti footballer fired the ball over the goal post.
Serengeti secured victory in the Songs competition, featuring original compositions about the school, thanks to the guidance of their skilled trainer, Wagumbulizi Edrine Kintu from S.3.C. The best project accolade went to Rwenzori House, and the title of the best dancer was awarded to Marwas Solomon from S.1.D in Tsavo House.
